The boys were on it from the off. The first try was probably the pick of the bunch, we stole the ball in our own 22, hacked through, Alex kicked & chased & caught the ball, drove to the line, popped to big Lewis who scored after a great supporting run! Ethan added the extras to put us 0-7 up. More pressure followed, leading to a Kyle touchdown, Ethan’s conversion hit the post, but it was 0-12.
Newbury got into our half, but spilled the ball for Harry to steal it and run the length of the pitch for a converted try, 0-19. Another move from deep in our own half set Joe A-T free from halfway and a scorch down the left wing put him in under the posts for 0-26. The final move of the half was a multi-phase play ending up with Harry’s second try out wide on the right wing. Ethan almost converted but we settled for being 0-31 up. 5 tries and no response – what a half! Even England only managed 30-8 and four tries against the French by half time.
Could we maintain this form? Into the second half, and we put together a great set of driving plays, worked into the 22, and Ethan scored in the corner. 0-36. We then took our foot of the gas a little, and allowed them 2 tries to give 12-36, would we crack? Of course not. Yet another end to end move occurred, all the players involved, with new Dylan scoring his first try on his debut, and Alex adding the extras – 12-43. We then had a scrum in our own half on the left side, the ball came quickly down the backs with Jeff bursting through on a great line between the centres, and Harry touched down for his hat trick in the right corner. Alex couldn’t quite squeeze the conversion home for the half century, but a 12-48 win was awesome nonetheless.
