The weather was cold, windy and wet, and generally our passing was great last Sunday with very few dropped balls, and our forwards did some solid hard work in the breakdown to help us secure quick ball.
We had a typical slow Bracknell start, conceding after just a few minutes to go 5-0 down, but at least that woke us up! We then put together some flowing rugby, getting the ball out wide with good passing down the line, for Matteo to score from the right wing and Scott from the left wing. Both managed to touch down under the posts, and Louis W converted both to put us 14-5 in the lead at the end of the first third.
We then rolled a few subs, and our forwards produced some great rugby with Casey producing a storming breakaway run followed by several phases which ended up with Luke touching down. Will didn't manage the conversion, but 19-5 was starting to look good. Nikita then flew down the right wing from a move starting in our own 22, Louis missed a wide conversion but now we were 24-5. We finished the second third with Thomas scoring a lovely try which Louis converted to put us 31-5.
We then rolled all our remaining players and showed our true strength in depth as Farnborough brought back their original A team players yet we still had a close game. Some end to end play followed, with Farnborough touching down but not converting for 31-10, before my favourite try of the day. We rumbled the ball up into their half, before we secured the ball at a breakdown, Alex at fly half just caught a low pass off his toes, and fed it down the line for Thomas to score out wide, 36-10. We were then running out of steam as Farnborough finished with a converted try, ending up 36-17 winners overall.
So in summary we won the first third 14-5, won the second 17-0, and lost the third 5-12.
We need to practice our cracker eating as our 3 new players Ryan, Ruben and Luca weren't quite able to eat them fast enough in the race but all in all a great day's rugby in difficult conditions.
