Bracknell reported for all the right reasons! A report by PJ.

After beating top of the table the previous week and lying second with a game in hand Bracknell bulls were hoping of another victory against 3rd place Aylesbury at Lilly Hill Park.

With a much changed squad consisting of many new players who had recently joined the Green gold n blacks a fine performance was to be witnessed. The Squad of twenty 21 met early and out on the pitch ready for their warm up and stretches and to do team run through.

The feeling in the squad was good and all were really up for putting in a performance of which they duly delivered, going downhill Ben Radford at fly half used the ball well and constantly put Aylesbury on the back foot and under pressure.

Bracknell started to gel early on and the forwards gave good base for fly half Ben Radford to fed his backline well, resulting in early tries for centres Lee Woods and Steven Reid. Ben Radford converting.
Whenever Aylesbury threatened or had possession the defence of the Bracknell was exactly what coach P.J had asked – ‘a tight aggressive defence’. Aylesbury were always rocked back in the tackle, and on numerous occasions turnover ball for Bracknell.

Steven Spence making his debut for the Club, made several breaks down the wing only to be last ditched tackles but with the support of his team mates always managed to recycle. The attacks against Aylesbury were mounting, resulting in further converted tries for Steven Reid and David Rosi. Ben Radford converting again.

With the pack driving relentlessly and Sam Turney at scrum half bossing his pack well and using effective ball , Aylesbury were starting to be put to the sword but in fairness to them they tackled and defended well.

No further score ,Half time 28-0. At half time the team talk was to keep up the ante and carry on with the structure and defence.

Bracknell immediately score from the kick off after another spilled ball from a crunching drive, Nigel Wright running (like Forest Gump) in the try under the posts, Ben Radford converting.

Though playing uphill the Bracknell pack played extremely well, with Ian Sutherland, Matt Randall, Tarn Barrington, Mark Havelock, Rob Wright, David Tonkinson (skipper) Luke Beckingham and David Rosi, and Dan Ledger really imposing themselves on their opposition. Again the team knitted throughout and from this forward work Sam Turney fed his backline, overlaps came and tries were scored, Chris Samson (2) Ben Radford kicking one missing 1, and with a few minutes to go David Rosi supporting the back line scoring Ben Radford converting 54-0.

The final whistle went and Bracknell were worthy winners.

This was one of best team performances of the season, and to have the rugby assessor for the matches ref, to pull a side coach P.J and comment “ one of best disciplined and team performances I`ve seen in many a year” is a credit to all involved.

Happy coach happy team !!
