Canterbury Shield - Division 3
Maidenhead 2nds 7 v Bracknell 2nds 17
Bracknell completed a double over Maidenhead but Manager Greg Anstead was still not happy with their overall performance due to careless errors though he felt there were occasions when his team did played up to their potential.
Conditions were difficult and these helped Maidenhead go into half time leading by 7-0 but a combination of a powerful team talk by Anstead and weather conditions being more favourable, enabled his crusading youngsters to press on and score 17 points in the second half to win by a comfortable 7-17.
Matt Anstead celebrated the birth of his son George with an opportunist try as he followed up a great cross field kick. The try wasn’t converted but it had set the course for the second half revival as Bracknell’s forwards turned on their power that enabled Academy player Josh Gaff to score his first senior try.
The best was yet to come as Barbados international Antonio Gibbons demonstrated his phenomenal pace by collecting to ball 50 metres out and scorched though the Maidenhead defence to score under the posts. The successful conversion gave Bracknell a well deserved 7-17 win and they maintain 3rd place in the league.
