Canterbury Shield - Division 3
Haywards Heath 2nds 3 v Bracknell 2nds 19
Another away victory for Greg Anstead’s crusading 2nd team who, though forced to make a number of changes, were still were good enough to maintain their prospects of promotion this season. Anstead is a motivator of the old school; he is hard to please but thoughtful and encouraging to his young team.
His man management skills were demonstrated as his team were up against big strong forwards but Bracknell with their strong defence and lightening backs were quick to knock out any thoughts Haywards Heath had of winning.
If the home team tried to chip over Bracknell’s wall of defenders then Ollie Jordan and his back row gathered the ball and returned it with interest. Also, in the pack everyone was on their game especially hooker Matt Surman who played well enough to gain the much converted Man of the Match award.
Try scores for Bracknell were Matt Brambly, Antonio Gibbons and Ryan Dee with a blinding run from the half way line, running past and through 6 defenders to score under the posts.
Next week Bracknell are at home for a local derby against Maidenhead with a 2:15 kick off.
