Canterbury Shield - Division 3
Bracknell 2nds 20 v Barnes 2nds 26.

On this showing the most influential person missing from Saturdays game was Bracknell’s Manager Greg Anstead who was at home enjoying the company of his newborn daughter Eden. His team lost their unbeaten league record and this may have been avoided if Anstead had been able to change tactics during the game.

So, it appeared that his aspiring team of youngsters were in premature labour themselves with a disastrous first half display of ball handling that gifted Barnes with two simply tries from intercepted passes. These enable Barnes to go into a 20-5 lead at half time with Bracknell’s reply being scored from a well-earned forward move that Gareth Staples scored.

The second half saw the home team tighten up their play and dominate the game with especially Tom Agar, Matt Anstead and Alan Leishman raising the tempo of the forward play. Tries by fly half Luke Carter, who has the potential to be a very good first team player and Gideon Kamya clawed back the score to 20-26 and on another day the usually reliable Ollie Jordan would have score enough points from the boot for the Lilly Hill team to edge victory.

Meanwhile back with his Eden, all Greg Anstead could only say when he heard the result was, “ I’m devastated”!

Next week they are away to Shelford and again, will be under the watchful eye of their demanding manager.
