It was pleasing to meet new faces at Lily Hill as this was the first meeting between Bracknell and Chard. It was also pleasing to see some old faces at Lily Hill as Bracknell MP Dr Philip Lee joined us again for the pre match lunch.
The Bracknell supporters did not have long to wait for Bracknell to open the scoring, Barry Dwyer nipping over from a ruck close to the Chard line . George Owen missing the conversion. 5-0 to Bracknell, with just 4 minutes gone.
Bracknell’s second try of the match came from a fine break by Stuart Mackay. Receiving the ball from a scrum within Bracknell’s own half he found space to canter in under the posts allowing George Owen to convert.
The reminder of the half saw some scrappy play, Bracknell having most of the territory but the final pass on a number of occasions not going to hand. With the final seconds of the half a long pass allowed the Chard winger B Stead to intercept and score a converted try under the Bracknell posts, meaning the score at half time was 12-10.
Whatever Rory said to his team at half time in the changing rooms seemed to have an immediate effect. Following a break and off load by Chris Brember, George Milligan was able to run in and score Bracknell’s third try, which was converted by George Owen.
This was quickly followed by Barry Dwyer’s second and Bracknell’s fourth try. The crowd sensed that a few more tries may follow. This was not to be the case as the same errors that affected Bracknell in the first half returned together with Chards determined defence.
Chards efforts were rewarded with a converted try from a catch and drive from a line out. Chard no 8 G Riley scoring.
26-17 at full time, Bracknell securing the bonus point win. The Ron de Jeremy Rum man of the match award going to George Milligan.
Next week the Bracknell are back on the road with a return trip to Somerset as they visit Weston super Mare. Please lend your support to cheer the lads on.
