Bracknell 29 Brixham 25

Bracknell welcomed Brixham to Lily Hill Park for their final home game of the season. Both sides needing a win to help stave off relegation. Head of Rugby Daniel ap Dafydd was able to announce an unchanged team from the team that defected Maidenhead last Saturday.

Bracknell kicked off attacking towards the clubhouse. It would be Brixham that would open the scoring, full back Connor Bedwell touching down in the Bracknell corner. Conversion from captain Tom Putt was good to give Brixham a seven point lead with just over 6 minutes gone.

The Bracknell response was almost immediate, Ken Dowding going over the Brixham try line following a darting break from Ally Walton. Vic Hardwicke converting.

A Vic Hardwicke penalty gave Bracknell the lead before Brixham re-took the lead with only their second venture into the Bracknell half. A break through the centre of Bracknel's defence allowed winger Jean –Prerre Simonetti to dot down. Conversion from Tom Putt was good to give Brixham the half time lead.

Half time: Bracknell 10 Brixham 12

Brixham now attacking towards the clubhouse further extended their lead with a try from Tom McLean, seizing upon a loose Bracknell ball to score. Conversion was good. Two further penalties took the Brixham lead to fifteen points and hopes of a Bracknell win seemingly fading in the spring sunshine.

With twenty five minutes of the second half gone a strong break by Chris Hala’ufia and a pop pass to Simon Haddad allowed him to score, to cut the Bracknell deficit to ten points.

Sensing that the game was still winnable Bracknell doubled their efforts and were rewarded with a try from Ally Walton. Chris Laidler now on the field converted and the Brixham lead was reduced to just three points.

More Bracknell pressure was rewarded with a crucial and bonus point try from Chris Wilson breaking out wide. Chris Laidler converted to complete the comeback and give Bracknell a vital win.

Full time: Bracknell 29 Brixham 25 (Points: Bracknell 5 Brixham 1)

The result sees Bracknell jump to 8th in league on 64 points but still does not confirm they are safe from relegation, as wins for both Ivybridge and Newbury means that 66 points is the mathematical safety level. Yesterdays win for Bournemouth against Bracknell’s final opponents Newton Abbot, means that they have secured the play off spot.

Bracknell’s final game of the season is away at third placed Newton Abbot (KO 2.30pm) a win would see Bracknell safe.

Finally well done to the Stags whos four try bonus point against Redingensians 3XV means that they are crowned BBO1 champions with one game still remaining. Well done to Mark Findley and his team!!!! Next Saturday the Stags are away at Maidenhead for their final game.
