Exmouth 36 Bracknell 36
After a week off Bracknell returned to league action with a journey to Devon to face Exmouth. During their week off they had dropped one league place as a result of Brixhams home with over Exmouth. It was therefore vital that Bracknell gained some points from this game to keep their head above the chasing relegation pack.
With twenty minutes on the clock the teams were neck and neck, at 10 all. Bracknell’s points coming from a converted Jiute Tipua try and a Chris Laidler penalty.
Just before the half time a break by Gabe Hills allowed Jiute Tipua to score his second try of the afternoon.
Half time: Exmouth 10 Bracknell 15
Into the second half a try by Ben Sanderson and conversion from Chris Laidler extended the Bracknell lead before Exmouth cut their lead with a further try of their own. 17-22.
In a topsy turvey game the sides exchanges further trys, Ian Burch the Bracknell scorer. 24-27
In a half in which Bracknell lead throughout, they could not get away from a determined Exmouth side. A Simon Bayliss try took the Bracknell lead to 12 points. 24-36.
If Bracknell thought this was game over then they needed to re-think as a resurgent Exmouth side scored two further trys to bring the scores level.
A late penalty from Bracknell was missed which would have given Bracknell the win.
Full time: Exmouth 36 Bracknell 36 (Points: Exmouth 3 Bracknell 3).
The result leaves Bracknell ninth in the league on 47 points eight points above Ivybridge, on 39 points, in the remaining relegation spot (although Ivybridge do have a game in hand). With the relegation spots still very much to be decided Bracknell will be looking nervously over their shoulder at the chasing pack.
