Bracknell 24 Brixham 19

It was a white frost in Berkshire that that greeted those arising Saturday morning. It was full credit to those volunteers that got down early to Lily Hill Park to ensure that the 1XV game could go ahead. The game going ahead was important as Bracknell needed to respond quickly to the loss against Salisbury last weekend but equally as important the club was hosting a number of former players at the former players lunch.

With skipper Chris Brember out with injury, James Ingle took over the captaincy. All those at the club wish Chris a speedy recovery. Bracknell started the game playing away from the clubhouse in the first half.

It was Brixham that had the first opportunity to open the scoring with two penalties. Fortunately for Bracknell both attempts going wide. It was Bracknell that were to open the scoring, Ben Sanderson darting through a gap in the Brixham defence to touchdown under the Brixham post. Chris Laidler converting.

Bracknell were to dominate possession and territory but could not convert the domination into score board points. This was to prove costly as just before the half time break centre Elliot Bryers scored Brixhams equalising try, following a poor Bracknell clearance kick. Ben Lovell converted.

With almost the last kick of the half Brixham took the lead with a Ben Lovell penalty, following Bracknell’s failure to clear their lines.

Half time 7-10.

With 5 minutes gone of the second half, Bracknell opened the scoring with a Jasper Miranda try, coming off a driving maul. Chris Laidler converted.

A Ben Lovell penalty brought Brixham back within one point. Further Bracknell indiscipline saw Daniel Carpo sent to the sin bin. The resultant kicked penalty gave Brixham the lead, 14-16.

The player numbers were equaled up when scrum half Noah Nash was sent to sin bin for a high tackle. From the penalty Chris Laidler gave Bracknell the lead back.

With ten minutes left on the clock Ian Burch sealed Bracknell’s win with a fine solo try, coming off his wing to 'zip' through the Brixham defence. Chris Laidler converting.

A late Brixham penalty allowed Brixham to claim a losing bonus point but it could not detract from a deserved Bracknell win.

Final Score: Bracknell 24 Brixham 19 (Points: Bracknell 4 Brixham 1)
