Bromsgrove 13 Bracknell 41

The first team were back on the road again for the first league meeting against the Worcestershire side, Bromsgrove RFC. Bromsgrove having been level transferred from the Midlands division to the South West division for the start of this season.

As has happened so many times this season Head of Rugby Daniel ap Dafydd was unable to name an unchanged side from the team that took the field from last Saturday, this time four changes in the starting line up being required.

It was Bromsgrove that started the better of the sides and within ten minutes of the kick off they had a deserved 8-0 lead. Bracknell got themselves onto the scoreboard with a penalty, before Jack Conway put Lachy Valentine through a hole to score Bracknell’s first try and draw the scores level.

Bracknell took the lead with a Jasper Miranda try after a driving maul from the forwards. No further scores, left the half time score line at 8-15 to the visitors.

Bracknell opened the scoring in the second half. A smart dummy from Ben Sanderson saw him score Bracknell’s third try of the day.

Just over ten minutes into the second half Bracknell scored their bonus point try. From a bind side move off the base of a scrum, Lachy Valentine fed Ben Yates who was able to break the Bromsgrove defence to touch down. 8-27.

Bromsgrove responded with an unconverted try of their own before Lachy Valentine scored his second try of the day with a fine pick and drive just before the 25 minute mark. 13-34. Bracknell’s sixth and final try came from open side Simon Hadad.

Final score: Bromsgrove 13 Bracknell 41 (Points: Bromsgrove 0 Bracknell 5)

Head of Rugby Daniel ap Dafydd said after the game “I think a 5 point win not at our best with a few key players missing shows how far this group has come. We now have a few styles of attack the players are comfortable with and hope to keep progressing each week.”

The result means Bracknell find themselves leaping up the league to eighth place following the defeats of both Cleve and Hornets, who were previously above Bracknell.

Next week Bracknell play host to fifth placed Newton Abbot at Lily Hill. It is also the clubs Christmas lunch and final home 1XV game of 2016 – to book lunch contact Steve Ward.

Please come down next Saturday to support the team! We will be pleased to receive any support you can provide. Go BRFC!
