Bracknell 29 Camborne 27

Bracknell played host to table topping Camborne for the first ever league meeting between the sides. Both sides produced a fine entertaining game of rugby with the lead changing hands a number of times.

Playing away from the clubhouse, Bracknell started the livelier of the two sides, perhaps Camborne still suffering the effects of the 260 miles trip to Bracknell. The early Bracknell pressure did not result in any scoreboard advantage but it did see two Camborne players sent to the sin bin. Although reduced in numbers, this did not stop Camborne opening the scoring with a David Mankee penalty.

Bracknell responded with a fine Ben Saunderson try after some good hands between the backs. Old stager Ben Nowak kicking the conversion.

Twenty minutes into the half, Camborne re-took the lead through a Sam Matavesi try, breaking from a scrum on the Bracknell five meter line. Conversion kicked by David Mankee.

Just before the half time break a great break by Antony Fitch saw him off load the ball for Chris Brember to cross the Camborne try line. The conversion by Ben Nowak meant that Bracknell’s half time lead was 14-10.

Into the second half Bracknell extended their lead with a Stu Mackay try following a good drving maul from the forwards. Conversion just going wide. 19-10.

Camborne responded with a fine try of their own , forwards and backs linking up. Conversion missed by David Mankee. Before play could restart referee Nick Marshall produced a red card for the Camborne captain, Sam Matavesi for biting the Bracknell full back Ben Yates.

Reduced in numbers for the second time in the game Camborne responded with a try under the Bracknell posts to retake the lead. A kicked conversion took the scoreline to 19-22.

Bracknell re-took the lead with a try off a driving maul, Kim Plant crossing the Camborne tryline. Ben Nowak kicking the conversion. 26-22.

If the Bracknell supporters thought this was job done’ then they were to be mistaken. Breaking from a scrum in their own half Camborne were able to score and re-take the lead. Conversion missed. 26-27.

With only seconds left on the clock, from the restart Bracknell claimed the ball and drove towards the Camborne try line. With the referee playing Bracknell advantage they continued to press. Eventually the play broke down and the referee awarded a Bracknell penalty to the right of the Camborne posts. Ben Nowak calmly stepped up to kick the ball between the posts to earn his side a much deserved win, and break Camborne hearts.

Full time: Bracknell 29 Camborne 27 (Points: Bracknell 5 Camborne 2)
