Bracknell dashed at Brixham

Eight o’clock Saturday morning saw Bracknell cast off for Astley Park, home of Brixham RFC (aka ‘The Fisherman’).

As the game kicked off a strong wind was blowing across Astley Park, which would make conditions difficult for both teams.

It was Brixham who were to open the scoring following a turnover at the scrum, centre Tom McLean scoring an converted try after nine minutes.

On the 25 minute mark Bracknell responded with a breakaway try for Ally Walton. The conversion going wide.

Bracknell took the lead following a fumble at a 5m lineout, Chris Brember touching down. Again, the conversion going wide. Brixham 7 Bracknell 10.

The half saw no further scores but Kim Plant received a yellow card for a tackle without the ball on one of Brixham decoy runners.

Half time: Brixham 7-10 Bracknell

Five minutes into the second half Brixham again opening the scoring and re-took the lead. Fly half Martin Worthington stepping inside to score a converted try. Brixham 14-10 Bracknell

10 minutes later Tom McLean scored his second try of the day breaking through the Bracknell defence. His try was converted by Joe Lovell .

With prop Russ Morris in the sin bin, Liam Hemming was able to take advantage to score a try under the Brixham posts. Lewis Dennett converting. Brixham 21-17 Bracknell

Now with a two man advantage as replacement Cory Moore had received a yellow, Bracknell pressed.

Bracknell were unable to take advantage of the superior numbers and Brixham extended their lead (and secured their bonus point ) with Tom McLean’s hat trick try following a Joe Lovell grubber kick.

There was just enough time on the clock for a Russ Morris interception try which was unconverted.

Full time: Brixham 33- Bracknell 17 (Points: Brixham 5- Bracknell 0).

Massive thanks to all the Bracknell supporters that made the long trip to support the lads.

Next Saturday the 1XV are back at Lily Hill as they face Lyndey (KO 3pm). There is a pre match lunch which can be booked via Steve Ward. Before this on Thursday we host the Bracknell Public Service Show and Friday we are holding a Macmillan Cake Sale. Please lend your support to both these events.
