Bracknell 27 Guernsey 30

Traffic jams on the M4 meant that coach Greenslade-Jones had to reshuffle his back line even before the start of the game, as a number of players were stuck in the 9 mile tail back.

Whatever the effects this may have had, it did not show in the first twenty minutes as Bracknell sprinted into an early 22-6 lead. Tries coming from Dan Faamatuainu, Stuart Mackay and Ben Yates (x2).

Bracknell’s good start was to be slowly undone. With Tom Devereux in the sin bin Guernsey drove over a catch and drive from a line out. Back rower Leon Gardener scoring, converted by fly half Glen Waters. Guernsey added a penalty just before half time. Scoreline 22-16 at the half.

6 mins into the second half Nick Ovens finished off a fine team try, inspired by Liam Henning and some great link up play and quick recycling. Liam Henning hitting the post with the conversion. 27-16

Guernsey responded with a try from winger Blair Campbell chasing down a kick from a scrum. Conversion being kicked by Glen Waters.

With Guernsey starting to dominate in the scrums, Bracknell were unable to generate any ‘go forward’. The determined Guernsey defence turning over the ball from Bracknell.

Eventually after some sustained Guernsey pressure Blair Campbell was able to touch down over the white wash following a chip kick over the Bracknell defensive line. Conversion was kicked. 27-30.

Bracknell now were unable to break out of their own half, and were further hampered by the sin binning of Josh Webb for tackling a player without the ball. Within in the final minutes Guernsey missed two more penalty attempts but Bracknells fate was sealed..
