Injuries that effected Bracknell’s pre-season, forcing club captain Kenny Barry to retire, came back to haunt Bracknell again. In the warm Number 8 Michael Clarke had to pull out off the game meaning that Coach Greenslade-Jones had to reshuffle the pack at the last minute.
Bracknell were fielding a side that saw eleven changes to the team that completed our last league game vs Old Cents. We welcome new players coming in Liam Hemming (Full Back), Daniel Faamatuainu (Centre) Lewis Dennett (Fly Half), Tom Williams (Prop), Lachlan Valentine, Josh Kroman (both Second Rows) and Tom Devereux (Back Row) to BRFC.
The first half was dominated by the defence of both sides, neither side being able to take advantage of any possession. With almost the final play of the half Bracknell’s Ian Birch was yellow carded for what the referee Robbie Bourke, deemed to be a deliberate knock on.
Score line at half time was 3-6 - one penalty kick from Bracknell’s Liam Hemming to two penalty kicks from Westcombe Park's fly half James Cameron.
Into the second half Bracknell were further reduced Lewis Dennett, receiving a yellow card. From the resultant penalty Westcombe Park extended their lead. James Cameron kicking the penalty.
Bracknell closed the gap with another Liam Hemming penalty. 6-9.
The only try of the game was scored by Westcombe Park. With 54 minutes of the game gone, a smart move down the back line allowing center, Ant Hitchcock, to score in the comer. Try was converted by James Cameron. 6-16.
With Bracknell exerting some pressure, what appeared to be a carbon copy of Ian Burch sin binning went unpunished, Westcombe Park remained at full strength leaving the Bracknell crowd somewhat confused..
Neither side could trouble the scorers further, full time score 6-16.
Next Saturday Brcaknell face a tricky away fixture at Shelford. If you can please come along and cheer on the lads – I know Rory and the team will be pleased to receive your support.
GO BRFC!
