A closer encounter in the cold winter weather

Due to the weather forecast for Friday night and Saturday making the match at Watchett’s Park highly unlikely, the match went ahead at Gordon’s School on their artificial pitch.

Camberley were quick off the mark and scored after four minutes, from the kick-off Bracknell had gathered the ball but a turnover enabled Camberley to move the ball from left to right wing. A maul on the 20 metre ended with a scrum which was resett, the home side got the ball out to the left, leaving the full back to run in at speed to score, this was converted, 7-0.

Bracknell then got back into the match and for ten minutes looked like scoring. Eventually after a promising was stopped due to a forward pass, Camberley had a scrum but a penalty was awarded to Bracknell, despathed to touch, lineout won, Bracknell scored on 14 minutes, conversion successful by Jake Findlay, 7-7.

After 27 minutes following good play by both sides, forcing turnovers on the pristine pitch, the home side scored a pushover try from a maul, the conversion made, score 14-7.

Bracknell again got into the match and were in the ascendency. a run by Bayliss on the left wing set the impetus and with Bracknell in front of the posts, the ball made it way to Noah Cannon who skipped through four tackles abd with an opposition defender hanging on a leg, scored wide to the right. the conversion just missed, and there was no meaningful further action.

Half-time 14-12.

Fifteen minutes into the half Camberley increased their lead, pressure from Bracknell went unrewarded, following a series of penalties, and scrums the home side's backs got the ball out to the opposite wing and a converted try took the score to 21-12.

Before Camberley scored again, Bracknell had a couple of chances to score, a knock-on near the try line, playing advantage a Camberley back made it to the half-way line unopposed. A knock=on gave the scrum to Bracknell, but again following a turnover, Camberley moved the ball down the backs line and secured the bonus point try, this was converted, the score was now 28-12 with 27 minutes of the half played.

At this point, Bracknell were in the ascendency again and spent the next ten minutes between the home sides 22 and 5 metre lines. With two try scoring attempts given as held up and the home side's attempts at keeping Bracknell out becoming more intense, a yellow card was given toformer Bracknell hooker Micheal Clarke for persistent offences.

With the man advantage, Bracknell made good use of this, a Camberley clearence from under the posts was worked back to the Camberley line in 3 phases. Following a penalty, Cannon scored a converted try to make the score to 28-19 with two minutes left

Camberley restarted and a huge kick had Bracknell on the backfoot and a penalty right on time was taken, this used up the remaining time and as the ball went over the posts the final whistle was blown.

An entertaing local derby, Bracknell can consider themselves a little unlucky not to gain 2bonus points at least.

Final score Camberley 31 Bracknell 19
