Bracknell U14s As v Rams As
By Gosia Hopley
Narrow defeat but what an improvement on last season!
We approached this game with mixed feelings, knowing that this time last year they smashed us 11 tries to 1, but that we have come on leaps and bounds since then.
We started the first half playing downhill on pitch 3, and were on fire from the first whistle. It was all Bracknell pressure, and a great move led to a Scott score on the right wing, which Louis converted to give 7-0. How did that happen, the Rams looked stunned!
We then created 2 other great chances during the first half following great link up play and support work but couldn’t ground over the line - would that come back to haunt us??
By half-time, Rams had woken up and were challenging more, but we went into the break 7-0 to the good, game on!
The second half started, and the Rams had obviously had a good talking to, and used the infamous pitch 3 slope well, to build a long period of pressure. Eventually our defence gave way as they scored a try down the left wing, but missed the conversion to make it 7-5.
Rams pressure continued, and we rolled some subs to re-energise the team. Eventually, Rams struck again with a try in the right corner but missed the conversion, to put their noses in front 7-10.
The last few minutes approached and we realised that we were still in the game and we charged into their 22. We managed multiple phases, but couldn’t quite score, and the final whistle went as we continued to be camped on their line.
So all in all we fell just short, but an awesome performance and huge positives across the whole team. Rams were very impressed with our play, and are worried if we continue to improve this year as much as we have in the last year they won’t stand a chance the next time we meet.
Thanks to Aggie the ref who did a great job today, and all our supporters who made a great noise throughout.
