Update on the Stags season so far by Paul Hancock

Firstly my apologies for the lack of regular updates in the last few weeks. Holiday and a break in League Action took its toll…however I will try and summarize as best I can, some of the great action and wins that the Stags have built upon during this period.

During the last few weeks we have continued to build what is proving to be a formidable squad. It is always pleasing to get compliments about how well drilled and fit side we are, and so it does not go to the players heads, I and the rest of the coaching staff think there is more to come. We have built well around some solid experienced players, who are all playing at the top of their game and we have brought through some great youth and added some fine additions who are starting to find their feet and will in no doubt gain higher honours in the club.

After the last weekend with a surprise defeat for Henley, at the hands Amersham & Chiltern (a side we previously beat a couple of weeks ago) Bracknell Stags currently find themselves top of the BBO1 League with a game in hand (ignore the RFU and Pitchero League tables….no one there can clearly add up correctly!!)

There is still a lot of rugby to play but given the strength of this squad and the players we still have to return from injury etc ,,,,,we cannot help but be confident that it will take a very good team to stop the roll we are currently on.

I am also delighted to see individuals such as Ben Nowak, Barry Dwyer, Sam Paine, Ben Yates, Nick Ovens all get calls (in Mr. Nowak’s case a out of retirement call) into the 1st XV Squad and the ability for us to backfill those call ups with players who are just as talented and driven to succeed, shows us that we are all in a good place, all I ask is for players to be patient…you will get your chances!!

Everyone has contributed to some great running rugby with some outstanding tries being run in from all angles. We are playing very disciplined and accurate rugby, which as lead to the following results:

Amersham & Chiltern 24 – 44 Bracknell Stags

Bracknell Stags 36 – 5 Basingstoke

Witney 10 – 41 Bracknell Stags

Buckingham 0 – 109 Bracknell Stags

As you can see for yourselves the momentum has been building over the few weeks and sadly for Buckingham a complete performance was applied. I will not mention at this stage any standouts because all of the players know what my view of them is…. and you should all be proud of this crop of players as supporters.

All that remains is for me to suggest or actually request that if you are not able to travel away to the Brixham match this weekend to see our 1ST XV Squad play, then come down and watch some seriously good rugby and to see some players who I have no doubt will be on that 1st XV Coach right in the not too distant future. It is a local derby v Reading KO: 2:30pm and the lads would appreciate your support.
